Atlas Mountains Day Trip. Top Day Trip from Marrakech

The journey began at 9 a.m., when our English-speaking local driver, Mouhssine, picked us up from our hotel. He picked Sergio and I up in a 4×4 with air conditioning and we set out on our journey.

The Atlas Mountains and up to five valleys were included in our custom-tailored tour of Morocco. It was just the two of us on a day trip.

We made our first photo stop after a 30-minute drive from Marrakech. It was a lovely Berber village surrounded by nature, with traditional dwellings and a stunning landscape. When it’s sweltering outside, these homes are meant to keep you cool and toasty inside. The ochre-colored clay, bricks, and pebbles used in their construction merge well with the landscape. What a beautiful sight!

Mouhssine was enlightening us about Moroccan history and culture as we drove to the next valley. Learn about Moroccan culture was fascinating.

Visit the Women’s Argan Oil Cooperative in this area. While, you can find out how argan tree kernels are used to manufacture argan oil and cosmetics in this section. Some of these items are available for purchase as well.

Ourika Valley and the Waterfalls

The journey was both relaxing and visually stimulating, with breathtaking vistas to be seen at every turn. It was breathtaking to see how the lush green vegetation, terraces, rivers, Berber communities, and the mountains in the distance shaped the environment in such an artistic way. We were able to stop whenever we wanted to take photos and enjoy the scenery because it was only Sergio and me on the tour.

You can also go for a walk to the famed waterfall and take in the beautiful scenery here. ‘ Excellent value, but we opted out in favor of seeing the Ouzoud Waterfalls instead.

In the Ourika Valley, we made numerous stops to take in the scenery. Afterwards, Moroccans flock to the Ourika region to escape the stifling heat of other regions, where they may enjoy a picnic on a riverbank and cool off with a drink.

If you plan ahead, you can even take a camel ride in this region. We decided not to go on another camel ride in the Sahara desert because we had already done so, but I’m sure it’s a lot of fun and we had a great time in the desert.

Atlas Mountains Day Trip from Marrakech : the local markets

Asni, a Berber village famous for its Saturday Market, is yet another pit point. One of the area’s most prominent marketplaces attracts a large number of customers who come from neighboring towns to buy local produce. Moreover, a journey to the Atlas Mountains on a Saturday will give you the opportunity to visit the local market.

You can visit various local markets depending on the day of the week you go. While, Ourika market is open on Mondays, Tahanaout market is open on Tuesdays, and Asni market is open on Sundays.

Getting to Imlil, in the Atlas Mountains

At this point, the terrain had changed from lush green terraces into stunning rocky scenery, as we neared the Atlas Mountains. In Morocco, the sight of snow-covered mountains was a pleasant surprise.

We made it to Imlil, a sleepy hamlet at the base of Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak.

Many local guides in Imlil have mules and may take you on a hike. Thus, this is the finest method to see the area because you’ll be accompanied by an expert who knows it through and out.

The Toubkal peak, which rises to a height of 4167 meters, is a popular destination for professional hikers from here. Among other things, you’ll be able to get information about the area and hire equipment like snowshoes.
