Tour Plan

Your 3 day desert tour on a budget from Marrakech to Merzouga will begin early in the morning with a drive east of Marrakech via tiny suburbs to the High Atlas Mountains. Several stops will be made for taking photographs, appreciating the view, stretching your legs, and drinking coffee. Drive upward on winding roads to the renowned Tizi N'tichka pass before reaching Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the day's first significant tourist attraction. The UNESCO-listed Berber walled town of Ait Ben Haddou is also well-known as a filming location for major Hollywood epics, like the Kingdom of Heaven, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gladiator, to mention a few. Explore the town at your leisure after crossing the river dividing the Kasbah from the main road. If you desire to hire a local guide, you can do so on-site. After a leisurely lunch at one of the local cafés, proceed to Dades valley via Ouarzazate, Skoura Oasis, and Klaa Mgouna, the capital of the valley of the roses and renowned for its rosewater distilleries. Upon arrival at Boumalne Dades, take a narrow route along the Dades River, passing several fortified Kasbahs on the way to Dades Canyons. You will check into your hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and lodging at your hotel in Dades.
Our adventure today will begin with a drive along the route of 1001 Kasbahs to the oasis of Tighir, where we will diverge to a secondary road driving down the river to Todgha, where you will pause for a walk in the oasis under the shade of palm trees and continue to Todgha Gorges. After some free time to take in the vastness of the cliffs and lunch at a local café (At leisure), we depart early in the afternoon for Rissani, known for its dates market and as the starting point for historic commercial caravans traversing the Sahara desert to Tomboctou. We will proceed to Merzouga after a little pause, travelling across some rocky desert countryside. When you arrive to Des Dunes Lodge, feel free to cool off in their refreshing pool before beginning your twilight desert stroll to the camp. The beautiful color-changing sand dunes may be experienced while riding camels through our camel caravan, with the setting sun serving as a backdrop. We arrive at our Sahara desert tent before it becomes dark. After taking in the sand dunes and surrounding scenery, prepare for a Moroccan meal served beneath the stars close to the bonfire. Late at night, your native nomad hosts will entertain you with traditional music and drumming.
After an early morning camel walk across the Erg Chebbi dunes, check into the camp operator's lodge for breakfast, a shower, and if time permits, a dip in the resort pool. Rejoin your driver and car, then return to Ouarzazate. After a leisurely lunch, we continue over the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech in the afternoon. Your 3 day desert tour will conclude in Marrakech at around 20:00.
